About Firefly Association
The Firefly Association for Civil Enforcement (NGO) was established in 2024 to create a (positive) 'tipping point' in Israel’s poor ecological and public health conditions.
We intent to achieve this, inter alia, through the use of civil litigation in class-action lawsuits in the fields of public health and environmental law.
The Association’s Modes of Action
- Initiating, supporting, and funding 50 class action lawsuits by 2028, in areas of significant public health and environmental impact. A critical mass of lawsuits, accompanied by professional and evidence-based expert opinions, is essential to create legal precedents, shift public and legal discourse, and generate deterrence against the biggest polluters and the most negligent actors in this field.
- A seven-month in-depth training program for 25 lawyers who will serve as our agents of change in the fields of environmental and public health law. The training encompasses cutting-edge legal theory and provides a deep foundation in the in the key focus areas with which the association is concerned. These extend from mental health to epidemiology, nature conservation, agroecology, waste, the climate crisis and more.
- The first class graduated in Sep 2025 and we are currently attempting to procure funding for the next class.
- Establishment of a center for applied research and knowledge on environmental civil enforcement, aimed at initiating applied research and making its findings accessible as a foundation for regulatory and legal decision-making.
The association’s activities are wholly funded by donations, if you wish to contribute to our mission and become part of the Firefly community, write to us at [email protected].
